Drywall Patching and Prep in NYC
Paint shows every flaw underneath it. We fix the flaws first.
Why prep matters
Fresh paint makes small flaws more obvious, not less. A dent, a crack or a patch that was not sanded flush will catch the light and show through even the best paint. Good drywall work is invisible once the wall is painted, which is the whole point.
What we repair
We fill nail holes and anchor holes, repair dents and dings, re-tape cracked or lifting seams, and patch larger holes so the repair blends into the surrounding wall. Each repair is built up in thin layers and sanded smooth between coats.
Sealing and priming
Patched areas absorb paint differently from the rest of the wall, which can leave dull spots called flashing. We prime repairs before painting so the finish looks even. Stains are sealed so they do not bleed through.
When we recommend a specialist
If a wall is wet, moldy or structurally damaged, painting over it is the wrong answer. We will say so, and we will tell you what needs to be fixed before we come back to finish the job.
Included with painting jobs
Basic patching and sanding is part of the prep for every painting job we quote. This service covers jobs where the repair work itself is the main task.
Common questions about drywall patching and prep
Can I book drywall repair without painting?
In most cases we repair and then paint, because a repair only disappears under fresh paint. If you only need a patch, tell us and we will look at what makes sense.
Can you fix water damage?
We repair the cosmetic damage, such as stained or bubbled drywall, but the source of any leak has to be fixed first. Otherwise the stain comes back through the new paint.
Will the patch show after painting?
A good patch is filled, sanded flush and primed so it takes paint like the rest of the wall. Under some lighting, large repairs can still be visible on a wall that has old, uneven paint, which is why we often paint the whole wall.
